I dreamed that the financial director came to me and was trying to stop me from resigning my job. He said that he would make me managing director of admin if I stayed. I remember feeling very puzlled and suspicious of this offer. I wondered why I would be given such consideration and why they would invent a position for me. And that is all I can remember.

Again, I congratulate you, as you have presented me with a dream that is taxing my brain..lol
Occupations, either ones own or others are common dream themes. Puns and metaphors can be important in them, so watch out for any that present themselves. I can't see any obvious ones in this dream. You don't describe your office environment, in your dream, but i am assuming this is the back drop for this dream. So I am working into it, what this setting can signify..basically fleshing out the bones of this dream, to see where it takes us.. Working in large offices with their identical work stations and grey computers can be soul destroying places, and often can symbolize the dreamers fear of losing their own sense of identity.
Being made a director, by the financial director, you do work with finances, are your own finances giving you cause for concern. Something as literal as that. Or have you been thinking of changing jobs to increase your finances?
With this dream, I think it is a literal one, maybe you are thinking of leaving, At least on one level, you may have lost your enthusiasm for the job, or feel its time to move on. Matters of self worth seem to be an issue here, you know that you are valued in your work place, but yet deep down, can't quite believe it. Maybe indicating some loss of self esteem.

Interesting what you say Kaz, I had this dream the day (night ) after I handed in my notice at work!
