Near Death Experiences, this is a subject that has fascinated me for a long time. Is it as scientists and doctors say, the result of the brain being starved of oxygen and producing vivid hallucinations. Or is it a profound and life changing experience for those who survive and return to the land of the living.
I would love to hear from anyone who has had this experience, and also if it has had this effect on you, either good or bad.

You beat me to it Karen. after the (all too brief) chat we did, I was about to post my near death experience. Here goes.
I was in labour with my daughter, Nadia, when I was given Pethidine for the pain. I suddenly felt myself receding, fading away, and everything went black. I had clinically died, what is more I was told later my daughter's heartbeat had also stopped. I just remember going down a long dark tunnel - sort of floating - and then there was incredible sweetness and light everywhere and my gran appeared, amongst others, there was with her my uncle Ronnie, who was her son, and had been drowned when I was younger, gran had died of a diabetic stroke when she was only 59...she told me I had to go back because my little girl needed me (i didnt even know I was having a little girl at this point!) and I said I wanted to stay. She said I didnt have to worry as she would always be with me. Here is the spooky bit....I came back and I was in the middle of an emergency caesarean...............but when I had my original scan when I found out I was pregnant at 9weeks, I was told there were two heartbeats....I was going to have twins. At 13 weeks, there was only one....I was told by doctors it was quite common for an undeveloped foetus to be absorbed by the other one at between 8 and 13 weeks pregnancy. This had happened with mine. I am told that the other baby which was never born is watching over my daughter, and that is what makes her so special. She is special, we named her Nadia, and her name means Hope. She was named after my grandmother who was Russian, and she made it out of Russia during the revolution. Isnt life a funny thing. I am grateful every day for my gran coming to me and telling me to go back, because I know she is with me all the time. I often hear her words in my mind and a medium told me she is always behind me, and can sense she is there.
Next. I cannot be the only one to have experienced this.

Hi Lizzie,
I couldn't help myself..lol I remembered our chat from the other day, and I waited for you to start this thread, and got impatient, so I hope you didn't mind the gentle nudge..lol
What an amazing story!!! Would you say, having had this experience, it has taken away any fear of death? From what I have read of others who have had similar experiences, this seems to be the first major change it has brought about. Most people are afraid of dying, its the unknown, and they do not want to leave their loved ones behind. Having such strong evidence of an afterlife existence is very reassuring to them.
Some people have come back from a near death experience having been given messages, either from their loved ones, or spiritual beings. These messages have been very important for mankind, and also usually resulting in the person changing their lives forever. Also gifts of spirit and an opening up of psychic ability have often followed.
Would you say, that your spiritual development really started after your experience, or if it had already started, would you say it sped things up a lot?
Lots of love Karen

Definitely, Karen, my spiritual existence began with that experience. It was nearly 16 years ago. I would say that it opened up everything for me and made me feel calm and safe inside. I did not fear as I had used to do, and death certainly holds no fear for me - nor does pain, somehow....my dentist's chair is not such a scary place! lol.
I wouldnt say I had an earthshattering, lifechanging experience, but a channel was definitely opened and through this has flowed much spiritual assistance over the years and I would say an opening of my psychic abilities too.
