This might be a bit political but I stubbornly think my philosophical bent just gives it "food for thought". It is no secret many spiritual people are very liberal in supporting political leaders and beliefs. So it comes to no surprise the current leader in the colonies - being nothing short of a conservation dream ( or nightmare ) come true - is in fact treated like a horror by many in metaphysical groups. This to the extent questions asked to Mediums and channelers often seem more like a plea for help to the beyond.
The most extreme example of what I am seeing is from Tina Spalding channeling Jesus to her select group but the trend seems universal. You would think the "other worldly" entities from the beyond professing their undying love for us would warn us of monsters in our midst. In fact what I am seeing is more or less is to flee - from the merchants of fear. Turn off the television. Do not rely on the mass media for your information. So much of this is fear based and only lowers your vibrations.
In so many words it is all in your mind and you allowed it to be there.
It was said at least two thousand years ago to be in this world but not of it. So how do you even know what is going on if the process contaminates you? Are we called to be monks and live in isolation because we can't take the real world? Isn't it arrogant to assume our version of reality is the only one correct?
Like many people who got disgusted by what they read I gravitated to other sources that said the opposite. It was good catharsis. But in the end it was all the same: fear and sensationalism. An axe to grind. Truth took a back seat to revenge.
It is said the spiritual path is the hardest to walk. Even more scary is who or what you can trust. I have encountered very few mystics in my life and sadly even fewer who knew what it was all about. It was as if some gift was bestowed but we don't know from whom. Or for what purpose. Just that it serves to bring light to a dark world. But is easily extinguished by fear.
Because fear is what sells ...

There is a book written by Napoleon Hill, which supposedly was not released at the time of completion, for fear of backlash from the powers of the catholic church. The book was published only after his wife's death, whether this was a marketing ploy or not, who knows. The book is titled, "Outwitting the devil." In its pages Mr. Hill, for some reason has the upper hand on the devil, and holding him to ransom, has the devil confess every underlying tactic he uses to control the mind of man. You would think such a confession would spell the end for the devil, but such is his hold on mankind that even blatancy doesn't concern him. His weapons of choice are fear and indecision. I do believe in every mind, if attention is applied, there are two voices, one dwells on fear. People often state the devil only exists in the minds of fearful men, the problem been there are many fearful men, and the saying, "If two or more are gathered in my name, Iam there with them," works for the positive as well as the negative.
I have often wondered about those who remove them selves from society to advance along the spiritual path, I have some experience in this myself, and question, is it a cop out, removing that which should test us, seems the easy way. But then I realized it is all within, the battle goes on in your head regardless, and then the thought, "Its the easy way came back." Then I remembered a line in, The Bhagavad Gita, chapter 13, verse 10."Unswerving devotion to me through exclusive yogic discipline, seeking out an isolated place, dissatisfaction with the society of men."
Surrounded by so many unconscious, it would take one of great strength to even stay on the path, never mind make progress, as Hera put it so well in another post, to even say you are enlightened, would have the ego charging forth.

It would be interesting to speculate on the ruling emotions of the Christians; are they more elated at the return of the Messiah or terrified at the rise of the Anti-Christ. Actually in the West rather the whole of civilization is prone to sum up a new player as either a savior or a detractor. Which might explain the dichotomy of the electorate and why modern leaders can be so loved and hated at the same time. It seems the human race is indeed taking sides but in what ways I can not decide. It isn't as simple as good vs. evil.
Which does explain why the early message was be righteous or get smacked by a vengeful god. Now it is look in the mirror - if you can stand to accept what you see.

Hi Gruntal, You asked,"Are we called to be monks and live in isolation because we can't take the real world?" There's a tease in my country about this. Those who go to temples (or become monks) are the persons who are broken-hearted, homeless/unsettled or waiting for a job (and don't know the better thing to do at the time). Sure, there's some truth in it. Even there are still some people who really are on their spiritual quests, to find their inner answers, inner peace. Anyway, I quited being a monk not because I was more brave and wanted face the real world. Bout because I found that it was not different there. Monks are also people. And people are complicated. Always are. Worse than than, monks have to keep some fix roles (whether they agree with them or not) other people put on them. There's no real freedom.

It might be speculated if in any one life time one was ready to be a monk. But that is really not very spiritual since the effort extends over many life times. A better personal question would be have you gotten all your physical ambitions satisfied and ready to BE a monk (forever). I wonder if the monastery would allow me to keep my extensive collection of hand guns. Put up a short wave antenna to do PSK amateur radio. Could I still decorate my abode with Fred Bonn and Andy Romano railroad art? I am not ready to give that up yet.
I am looking forward to being a space ship pilot and celestial navigator. It isn't that I have abandoned astral projection - I figured it would easier to master the machines first.
I rarely if ever am scared on anything mechanical - I have made peace with that. It is the "soft" stuff I can't see or hear that brings on the nightmares ....

Hmm...the reason why I don't want to be a monk again, because they might not allow me to keep my Ipod?

I think that just about hits the nail right on the head, "Are we ready to be a monk now, forever." Is it a case of, we have played with all the toys available, are now bored and want to go home, but they are always inventing new toys to keep us entertained. How the desire even exists, when the only proof available is that which is written in scriptures, and even desire itself sets us off on the wrong foot. Given the parameters the ideal candidate would be someone who has lost the lust for life..
