Attending a local class in Mediumship Developement I noted the "dead" were more honest then the living or at least more upfront about what they were. Apparently that wasn't what the teacher wanted to hear although I haven't completed the class yet and more is to come. Suffice it to say the subject is interesting to me because I think I see something there but I don't quite know how to describe it.
One of the trademarks - and to me one of the banes - of New Age spirituality is the emphasis on love and peace and harmony. All hold hands and rejoice. The Devil no longer exists. I admit I do love it when a guru does have the courage to warn hatred and destruction are still very much a part of the Cosmos as long as there are entities that have no purpose of being other then to consume what some of us have built out of loving kindness.
You must be on your guard!
But how much deceit actually exists beyond the mortal? Do the spiritual wolfs come dressed in sheep's clothing or do we naively gift wrap them as benign presents to satisfy our ego we are deserving of something special? I mean at one level we want only the best in our lives but at another level pretending all is hearts and flowers doesn't make it so.
One of the many many enigmas of Spirituality is the admonition of "judge not less you be judged". So what is the point of becoming enlightened if you aren't able and willing to judge right from wrong? Even more telling is how do you even pretend to help and guide people if there is no right way; no absolutes; nothing better then the worst?
Perhaps the only way I can deal with this is to assume even if I know what should be done that doesn't give me the right to force the others to do that. The same should apply to the "dead". Some are out there in a state of grace and some are spiritual vampires. Some give and some only take. Much like the seeker who approaches them. But the question is isn't it obvious?
Sometimes I think only the living are so good at lying - especially to themselves.

Happy to see a new post here George.. Maybe the Forum will be reborn:) Reading over your post brought up some questions in regard to some of your statements - especially about judgements.
I find looking at things from an energetic perspective more useful then getting trapped in semantic and words. Is judgement the same process as spiritual discernment? Can one clearly witness things without getting attached and making just “good-bad judgements”? Learning to perceive the energy behind things and ideas and making choices which are aligned to higher consciousness and not just from our ego? I think it is not always easy to do but is what the true spiritual path holds as a wisdom.
Goes really to question do we believe that there are spiritual LAWS in which the world and our levels of consciousness exist in. And the next questions are: if one does believe that – how can one first ascertain and then live by those laws? Are there different laws for different level of consciousness? Or maybe the same laws but they work out differently - or even have different results?

Hi George, Glad to see you are enjoying your new mediumship classes. Can I ask, in what way do you think spirit are more honest? Personally I think 'spirit', who are basically you and me, without physical overcoats, are still very much as they were when they were alive. And that the degree of honesty you can expect, is the same as they would have had when they were living. Of course if you are talking to about higher spiritual beings, who have evolved, you would expect better behaviour. But are they not prone to giving cryptic answers. And avoid giving too much away, preferring us to find our own. Or at least think without being told. I am both fascinated by and repelled in equal measure by Ouija boards. Was told that using one, was a bit like throwing a party and it being open house. All are welcome, but not everyone can be trusted to behave themselves, or come without their own agenda. So with this warning always ringing in my ears, I Can not honestly say I have not taken part, though I have watched others do it, albeit without much success. And I have been told, that if used by a experienced Medium, who will ensure the proper protective measures are in place, that they can be a useful tool. Over time I have heard stories of the use of the board going wrong. As a teenager, some boys in the village where I lived decided to make their own on top of a old gravestone in our local village cemetery. Apparently, it went a bit haywire and smashed by itself. As you can imagine, they legged it quickly. And one boy claimed to have heard definite knocking at his window in the middle of that night. Not an easy feat, as he was two floors up. To my knowledge never repeated the experience. Another story took place in a college where my friend was a theology student. He did not take part in the seance, but was invited to observe. As he was going to be a priest they felt his presence would be protection if anything went wrong. Apparently a spirit made his presence felt and the answers were directed to one person in particular. Out of a group of 8, one by one all the other people felt compelled to leave the room for one reason or another, eventually only leaving this one person and my friend there. He then too felt the urge to leave, without really knowing why. And on exiting the room, heard a cry as the table the board was on had violently moved, pinning the remaining person against the wall. It turned out the spirit had a grudge against his family. I do agree with what Ace has said, saying "Is judgement the same process as spiritual discernment? Can one clearly witness things without getting attached and making just “good-bad judgements”? I also believe that there are Spiritual Laws, that to a degree protect us. But, that is not to say we should not participate in activities of this kind without being responsible and aware of the possible pitfalls. Some say Ignorance is Bliss, but I believe Ignorance to be dangerous. Particularly when walking the spiritual path. And to assume that all spirit communication is what is seems would be naive. But I guess, for some they will just do it anyway, and I suppose the lessons learned from there experiences are meant for them. Interesting post George. Looking forward to hearing more about your Mediumship Classes, if you are happy to share. Love and light Kaz

Hi Kaz
I found your story about knocking on window.. very much like one I had many years ago. I had been at my friends ski lodge she had in Vermont with a few spiritual oriented friends. We all slept on second floor bedrooms.. it was about two Am and I couldn't sleep so I started to read "The Secret Doctrine" of the Theosophists which person who owned lodge had on her bookshelf in room.
I started to hear knocking on window -- a few others in other bedrooms woke up abruptly and heard it also. We checked everywhere what it could have been that night and also the next day. We never did find out what it was... but a few of us heard it that night very clearly. And still remember the experience 35 or so years later.

This might be a dumb example too suggestive of politics but I think many can relate to it. Imagine a great and powerful ruler better known for grandiose intimidating statements. If you got on the wrong side of him it was pretty obvious although rather the bluster was really damaging to anyone would be more speculative. Imagine another ruler, maybe the predecessor, of great diplomatic eloquence whose very words could be reassuring and comforting. All sweetness at a distance until you got close enough to see the ugly power of control and manipulation. What is really happening?
If it involves a human you are judging I maintain it can take time to sort out their true intentions. At our level we have jobs to do and it can be very difficult and force us to behave in an awkward if not deceitful way. Or it is just so hard to explain what we want. But the Spirits are so difficult to see or hear they can't be bothered by imagery most can't even perceive so I find the malevolent ones quickly get down to basics: do this - do that - do the other thing - do their bidding. It is suggested a truly benevolent Spirit always gives you the freedom and space to be you without trying to lead or trip you and that is how you can recognize them.
I am forever reminded of the best advice I got from the Rose Brotherhood on asking for credentials: "Are we one with God?". The "dead" seem unable to lie about this and quickly flee but the living you have to watch out for ....

Yes, yes, yes Ace. You summed up totally everything I now believe, but couldn't have so eloquently have written. Thank you. Some years ago I too attended mediumship classes Gruntal until that is one evening when we were all sitting in our regular circle meditating until the medium leading the group announced we were going to try and witness transmogrification and asked for a volunteer. The friend I attended class with became the focus that we we all supposed to concentrate on to see what happened and we carried on meditating. Well, me being me at this point peeked out from behind closed eyes to see a very demonic looking figure appear in the middle of the circle. Eeek. Anyway I couldn't disturb the deep concentration in the room so closed my eyes and tried hard to carry on meditating until the leader asked us to open our eyes and look at my friend while we were still in a meditative state. It truly was amazing as we all watched her slowly transmogrify into a red indian, complete with full head dress etc. After a while she started to become distressed, leapt up and returned to her usual form. When we spoke about it afterwards she told me that she had been aware of a different spirit coming into her body and that it felt completely wrong which was when she became distressed. That was all too freaky for me and the demonic figure I saw freaked me out so much that I never returned to the classes.

The type of channeling you described is commonly called Physical Medium and practiced more in Great Britain. It is not very popular elsewhere and not recommended very often. For obvious reasons. It also could be considered totally unnecessary. Not to flog a dead horse but taking over a person's body completely is a but much to ask - a "deadie" seems to be betraying their motivations in going to that extreme. So why was the human medium allowing this with no apologies ?
I'd flee from both of them ....

Hi all,
That was a very interesting story Hera. It would have frightened me too. I attended a meditation group once, but when it started, it was clear it was not meditation they were doing. The medium sat at the head of the circle. There was not enough chairs, so I sat on the floor. She said she was going to invite the spirits in to communicate with us. She said no prayer of protection, or invoked any kind of spiritual protection at all. Told us all to close our eyes and to open our crown chakras. Well, this immediately made me uneasy, as I had been developing as a healer, I believe I understood more about the functions of the chakras then the other women attending. And knew that by opening up this way we were presenting ourselves as open vessels, without protection for spiritual/spirit energy. I don't think the other women understood this. They just believed they were supporting her with their energy, so she could get a 'good line' to spirit, so to speak. She asked everyone to close their eyes.
As time went on I felt more and more uneasy, and of course opened my eyes to see what was happening. All around her was this wierd flickering light. And the light spread out towards the other women, like fingers or tendrils. I had this overwhelming urge to put my hand over my head. As though I deliberately refrained from visualising my crown chakra opening, I could feeling it happening almost spontanously. I suppose its the power of the group. You get carried along with it. I started to get palpatations and feel unwell. So I just got up and left the room. I just said I felt unwell and rather than say anything to disturb anyone else I felt it best to leave the room quietly. They seemed to accept this. I never went back. I think its important to go with your gut instincts, if something does not feel right, it usually isn't. Though I believe I was meant to have this experience, so I would learn discernment, and understand, not everyone who runs these groups actually does it in a responsible way. Its an ego self interest thing.
Love and light Kaz

Hello all, I must say, it is very refreshing to hear people give actual, personal accounts of spirit interaction, I do not have much else to add, but will say there is far more out there, than just the spirits of the deceased and those we perceive to be on a higher level. Whatever way we look at it, we work from a disadvantaged point of view, discernment and caution, only cover so much, for there to be interaction, there has to acceptance on our part, and like it or not, we have no idea who we are dealing with. I have personally witnessed, spirit step into a human body, and watched the face of that person completely change, I have been told on several occasions, after performing certain spiritual practices, "my God, you look so different", I maybe repeating myself here, but I have also witnessed spirit, trying to force entry through my crown chakra. There is any amount of spirit quite happy to enter human bodies to carry out their will, whether that is good or bad, can only be proved, in the long term. Spirit is quite aware, you catch more flies with honey than vinegar. The one liners, "Do you stand in the light of Christ," and suchlike, do seem to repel some, but those that wish to deceive may also come in different levels, as the Bible says, "demons can come as angels of light" and some we let right in. At times it can do great good to stand back for a while, and examine that which we have experienced, to look at things with fresh eyes, fully involved in spiritual practices, can at times, keep us locked in a certain mindset, too close to the trees to see the forest.
Tread carefully, Mojo.

Hi all, I think it is important to talk about the pitfalls of exploring spirit communication, and developing mediumship. Not so much to dwell on the negatives, but to highlight it is not all love and light. And that there is risk attached to attempting it without training or guidance. I agree with Robert (mojomojo) in that there are malevolent spirit who are very aware; who can dissemble and project whatever it is we need to see to drop our defences. And that just as in our everyday lives, we would not always trust what we see, but go with what we feel or sense about someone, before letting them get too close. And this is about trusting our intuition. Our own moral compass. As we develop and become more spiritually open. Many years ago, I belonged to a spiritual development/healing group. It was connected to the church. The Vicar was a very open minded. Was into personal development through studying archetypes and using the Kabbalah. We often did group meditations. Kept dream journals. I loved this set up as it was very much in keeping with my own belief, that it was important to develop self knowledge and spiritual awareness alongside other spiritual practice, like healing and mediumship. I personally was not drawn to mediumship, I just wanted to develop as a healer, but was fully aware that both are similar in the sense that we open up to spirit energy. For a time I was unable to attend the weekly group sessions. And it was during this period, that the group encountered a malevolent spirit. It was a female spirit, I wont mention her name, because even after all this time I still feel apprehensive about doing anything that would attract her into my space. She appeared to one of our group. An older and very spiritually aware lady who did a lot of meditation on her own. Not like the rest of us who were a bit hit or miss. Anyway, she conveyed herself to my friend as once having been a Nun, and wanted to help my friend and the rest of the group develop. Over time she came to reveal quite a lot of information about herself and her life when she was alive. At first apparently everyone was excited. As this spirit lady came through as being this beautiful, spiritual and pure energy. However, as time went on, after having more and more sessions of connecting to her, each member of the group attending was reporting feelings of depression and suicidal thoughts. Particularly the group member who first connected with her. Who in every day life was even tempered, very emotionally and mentally well balanced. So was very odd. This spirit started to manifest to each member individually, at home or when they were in quiet time. And eventually they realised something was not right. In fact very wrong. They then took steps to disconnect and block any contact with her. But it took quite some time, and frightened them. Remember in all this time, I was not attending group, so I was told all this after the fact. Our group leader at the time said he felt it was right that I was not there. Being the youngest and at the time and the most emotionally vulnerable and sensitive. For my own protection, my higher guidance or spirit guides if you will, made sure I was not available. I thought it odd at the time, that for about a 6 week period, I just did not feel like attending the weekly group sessions. I felt a bit down and lacking in energy and just did not want to go. Having attended religiously for over two years it was very out of character for me. Discussing it afterwards, we realised that on some level, I understood what was going on and my instincts told me to Stay Away. Love and light Kaz

Section two and the completion of my Mediumship Developement class. I am hardly a full fledged psychic yet. Some things I did surprisingly good and other things I completely bombed out. So apparently there is no universal syndrome of doing this. But then there is no obvious way to judge at what level you happen to be at. The reason being there are ways each individual can see beyond the veil that are unique to them at a certain point in their development.
One problem is training yourself to rely on first impressions. What you perceive first is usually "pure"; after that your logical mind extrapolates. Another problem is we tend to think we should see visions or observations. I am learning that that isn't always so. You might see something that is isolated and disjointed when you want to see a "ghost". In actually ( going beyond the obvious oxymoron that this is NOT conventional reality ) the "dead" might see or remember a last image that meant a lot to them years ago and you can pick that up thru their eyes even if it is long gone and no longer exists. A pretty field of flowers might have a sinister feeling and you presume that is a mistake. Further investigation by a more gifted psychic reveals it was a bloody battle scene and the person you contacted managed to flee shortly before death. The soothing rustic or rural was just the LAST IMAGE they had before they succumbed to fatal injuries.
Another problem is most of us are only able to latch onto certain things at first and the rest we can't feel yet. Some are empathic and feel emotions; some like me are naturally cold and logical. Some can easily be persuaded to act as conduits in writing a "ghosts" story as a sort of automatic writing; some people can sit with a note pad all day and never have a single urge to scribble even a punctuation mark at some mysterious urging. Cards - like Tarot cards - are pleasing to some and draw amazing suggestions ( from somewhere ) beyond coincidence. There are many jokes about hearing strange voices and usually that is a sign of mental illness. But what is the use in contacting for benign reasons and ignoring pleas? If it exists it must still want to communicate and that is how you can be of help.
Finally the bad does exist. The price of being sensitive is too attract things like moths to a flame. Asking for protection is a must and being selective on who you let into your aura is your right. Your not there to be any one's psychic lunch or offer yourself ( or anyone else ) as a sacrifice.

For many looking into the spiritual stems from complete disillusionment with the world and the antics of those on it although maybe, a bit naive, it can be a slap in the face, when one discovers things aint much different beyond the physical. As has been already stated, it would be of great benefit, if procedures for protection were discussed, preparing those starting out, rather than letting them amble off in ignorance. The law of like attracts like falls short, as when the thought of peace enters the mind, its opposite is also present, a peaceful man will not avoid violence, unless that level of non duality has been attained. Our intent is paramount in everything spiritual, the slightest hint of ego will take us on a detour every time, and if you think you are ego free, well enjoy the scenery. But where does it leave us? if those of a negative nature can present themselves as angels of light, is delving into the spiritual a lottery, protection only does so much, there will always be those who slip through, and why does opening a Chanel for supposedly good allow the opposite access? My journey brought many, from what I perceived as the most high and holy, to fearful energy sucking entities, and those that would test the minds strength, and could never understand, how the good were on the same path as the evil, maybe it is a free for all. But I have to state the most cunning foe of all, when its existence is threatened, is the ego.
