One of the things that always makes me wince - hearing about religious antics in the past - or even short biographies of Ascended Masters of some time ago - is how questionable if not utterly unacceptable the behavior is. It brings up the notorious lament of how anyone could be saved given current standards. Assuming people are expected to act and be the same over all eternity to be saved.
This also segues into how and why the Jehovah of old was such a meanie when his Son Jesus was all smiles and forgiveness. The atheists love to spotlight the bloodshed of the past as rebuttal to the professed loving kindness the religious types like to monopolize in the present.
So why has God changed so much over the years?
The Rosicrucians teach God is self realized and interpreted in the process. He is not so much a product of man as a icon of ourselves. But more divine. Our ultimate ideal. Something to look up to. Also something to fear. If you are still running scared.
You would have to a monument to arrogance not to be at least a little wary. Fools tread when angels fear to go.
One of the best analogies I can think of is we are in a live stage play but allowed to ad lib the lines. It is good we try to live the part and honor the script. But it is all an act in that when it is all over no one is dead. Our real personalities go on even after we pretend we are Napoleon or Julius Caesar. If we do a good job we get better parts next time.
So when does the fantasy end and reality start? Probably when our dreams are so realistic they could pass for reality. But given our present limitations and our denial of that I don't expect many of us will have to worry about leaving the stage quite yet. Besides grease paint and costumes are fun !
It is also a given the Director hates us and gave us the worst parts but that is another story ...
