This might be an appropriate time to bring this up.
Is there a hierarchy to things spiritual? I am sure there is. Going from fortune cookies to sitting down with a Master and everything in between.
How do you know you are at the right time and place? More to the point I think is how aware you are of what is going on around you and what if any demons are lurking by your side holding you back. Getting the Cosmos to reveal it's secrets assumes you are capable of asking the right questions. And accepting the right answers.
I was told attitude and life style are the defining things. Not so much at any one point in time but as a force that either propels you or motivates the others. Things are too easy to forget but concepts keep coming back to the surface if you ingrain them to yourself. This isn't something you practice every Sabbath Day morning as an act of atonement to justify what when on during the week.
I spent some years in Sunday School but the environment was at time quite rowdy. Too many kids were there that did not want to be; later as adults too many egomaniacs used their leadership for ego and self aggrandizement. Computer BBS and IRC Chat Rooms later segued to the InterNet and that was fine as far as it went but the "cream of the crop" users never much stayed. The real action was very personal - maybe right in the very town you lived in - but it wasn't so much advertised.
What goes on in local meetings? In one instance the moderator was channeling an entity and recording was allowed. How can you copywrite an utterance made by someone dead or from another level of reality? And the dark beer was probably quite good but I have too many health problems to imbibe myself except in carefully controlled conditions. At another instance at another time and place we were told to turn off and place cell phones on the table, we already signed confidentiality contracts, we closed all the windows; what was being said was for OUR ears and nobody else. Not so much secret but very very private.
Do people get thrown out at local meetings? Not exactly but some are told not to return or show up if they can't abide by the rules. The cost per person per meeting is a pittance to the inconvenience of the host to open up their house to the guests but eventually payment in advance is required to discourage no-shows.
Perhaps most aggravating is if everyone is welcome to these things? At one level no one is turned away but at another level groups can only function if they are compatible. To some I might be the "fly in the ointment" but to me some of the others are too arrogant and make me feel uncomfortable. Some times I wish I could just snatch away another's spirituality if I don't think they deserve or appreciate what they have! The Moderator must make the final decision who attends and what goes on and what the teacher does is just their way of providing a service to the community.
The thing that seems to keep me going is I may or may not have any strange occult powers. I may or may not be loving or compassionate - or sarcastic to the point I irritate everyone around me. But my sense of morality and ethics and loyalty are my choice and my choice alone. Nobody can beat me at that game no matter what unless I let them.
