It was my first time! Tucked on a quiet, leafy street very close to my flat, I found the Battersea Spiritualist Church. I had no idea what to expect, so Leon kindly advised me. So I went along yesterday to see if I could find some comfort, reassurance and inspiration in my time of trouble (nursing a broken heart and not knowing where my life is going). The main reason I went was to see the medium, there were only about six other people there so we all got messages. Mine was not from someone I recognised, but they gave me evidence and advice which I needed to hear. Am going to go back again. I felt a bit uncomfortable singing the hymns because I haven't sung hymns since primary school and I was not brought up in the church - but it was OK and I did my best Have any of you been to a Spiritualist Church? What did you think of it?

Six, that was a low turn out, I have never seen below about 20. It must of been harder singing hymns with so few people there. Try another spiritual church if you get chance as the atmosphere is different from one church to another. Some churches get quite full, I was at one a month ago in Stourbridge and there must have been nearly 200 there. The singing that night was very powerful, which helped the night along. Do keep looking around Timmy as theres always a gem to be found. God bless

Dear Timmy, It was lovely to hear about your "first time" at spiritual church and I'm sure it wont be your last..as Leon has wisely said you have to look around and find a church that you feel comfortable in. I am sure the numbers do make a difference, if only in terms of energy and atmosphere that is generated. I have read that spirit feed off our positive love energy or vibration. The higher the buzz, the better the lines of communication are. My first time was December 06 two weeks before Christmas. Was chuffed to bits to find out that there was a spiritual church here in Tywyn after living here nearly 2 years. But once the euphoria of finding out there was one wore off, I then had to summon up the courage to go on my own..I'm a bit of a coward and like company usually when I make my first foray into unknown territory. But there was no volunteers, so as I wanted to go so badly, I gathered up all my dutch..and went on my own. I was so nervous I had a rash all over my chest..lol They must of thought I had the dreaded lurgy..!!!!! We sang carols which was lovely and I found the prayers about healing and spirit wonderful. Much nicer then traditional church services. Which I'd experienced a lot as a child and in my early twenties. I found the reading or sermon type presentation the mediums gave before they started giving readings to be touching and very informative. I reckon every church should have a medium give the sermon, would make the services far more interesting.. I don't know what I was expecting from the mediums I suppose I'd got this preconception of them being serious faced and usually old...a misconception, I've obviously lost since joining thegodlight..lol The first one I saw as called Sue Presley and she Part Native American Indian. She was amazing, and put everyone at their ease straight away by cracking jokes and the atmosphere was as light as air. Thats the thing I've learned and was the most surprised by, is how much laughter is a big part of spiritualism. I found it to be a wonderful experience. The congregation did not impress me as much as the mediums did. I found them to be distant and a little clicky. I was on my own and stood there like a spare part drinking my cup of tea afterwards and would have loved to have had a chat with someone. I did all the right things, smiled, made eye contact..but they all huddled round in their individual groups and I got no takers...Kaz no mates.. Hey maybe its my perfume.. I did speak to the medium to thank her for the service..and she was lovely and to the head of the church who does the healing and did tentatively enquire about the open circle they ran. But his manner was so off hand that I thought...nah...if I do join one ever, it wont be this one. So I'm going to do as Leon has suggested, and keep my options open and look around. Love and light Kaz

Timmy, it's great to hear about your first time in a Spiritualist Church. I agree with Leon check out as many as you can... you'll find the one that sits right with you. I am a tad envious of you all in that part of the world... there seem to be so many to choose from there.
Here in Canada we have a few dotted across the country. Here where I live we have three of them...years ago back in the mid ninties... I found my way to one of them... I drove by one of them... (the closest one to where I lived at the time)...as I drove up to it, it reminded me of a dream I had about a church... (was not a nice dream, but that's another story)...anyway off I drove and ended up at the one farthest away... (funny how that happens... I think there was a message in that for me, which I didn't catch at the time). Anyway, when I walked in... I felt a powerful sensation of love immediately. There was where I had experienced my first healing... (and I cried like a baby I might add) ... the energies were very powerful in there... needless to say ... I was hooked and it is still to this day my home. Since then I have gotten so involved with the church doing healings, chairing the services, giving the sermons, and message bearing. And I would not change a thing... so keep looking you'll find one you can call home... of that I'm sure.
I have attended the other two and found that their energy was lacking something for me... but that's me... we all look for those places that call to us deep down inside.
I look forward to hearing more of your journey.
God bless! Silvia

Hi Kaz,
I hope you still pass by this way. I have no idea whether you have been back to see us in Tywyn Spiritualist Church as I obviously do not know who you are. If you have not then please call in as we would be absolutely delighted to see you again.
Unfortunately your first time at our (now)18 month old church was the busiest night of our first year, as you said just before Christmas and everybody was given a little present to hang on their Christmas tree on arrival. Afterwards it was hectic to say the least with the biggest raffle we have ever had with food and drinks that were offered to everybody in the room. This year is looking to be even better. So, apologies if you seemed left out, and regarding me seeming to be 'off-hand' with you I can only apologise again as we do try to make everyone welcome with a greeting when they arrive and sadly we cannot get to see everybody afterwards. We are far from being egotisitical and beyond approach, we are here to help everyone where we can.
Because the last church before Christmas was well circulated as a big raffle and party night after the service a lot of people turned up for the occasion whom we have never seen since. We are pleased to say that we only deal in the best possible Love and Light to everyone.
The medium Sue Presley has been back to us since then, in fact just a few weeks ago when she and her husband Paul presented their Native North American workshop the day following the Friday evening service. There was an excellent write-up in the local paper.
If you are still looking for Spiritual Churches in Mid-Wales - try Aberaeron about 48 miles away, Newtown 40 miles away and of course you know our mother church Talybont. Please contact me if you require details or any further information. The distance to these churches was one reason why we started the church here in Tywyn - geographically it fills a big hole. For a few years my wife and I travelled to Talybont, an hours drive, nearly every week.
I sincerely hope that this reply to your posting puts your first visit to a Spiritualist Church in a slightly different perspective.
Love and Light,
Healerdave.

Hi Kaz,
Had a proper look round the boards now and yes, of course I know who you are and I am sure you HAVE been back to see us a few times. Lovely to see you are so busy!
As I have posted on the church website nobody has a finger wagged at them for not coming to church, we are all given freewill and a life to lead, so everybody can come to church as and when they can.
Love and Light,
David

Hi everyone! I would just like to say that I have attended Tywyn Spiritualist church since January 2007. I attend almost every week. I lost my Dad when I was little, so I have had a whole lifetime of sadness, guilt and anger on my shoulders for most of my life. I can tell you ~ it's almost a year since I have been going there, when no one else listened, when there was no one to turn to or talk to, they have always been there and I'm feeling ready now to move on with my life and everything now. I had a warm welcome, I went on my own and I didn't feel pushed out, I have made a lot of good friends there, friends who are there when you need them in the good times aswell as the bad times. For someone to be able sort me out in just under a year is nothing short of a miracle and I got my Dad back ! ! ! Love and light. Peace and serenity. Stella.
