It is often said, to hear God's voice, or the guidance of our higher self, that we need to be quiet and find inner stillness. How do we know that what we hear is God speaking to us, or our Inner Wisdom from our Higher Self? How can we know, that what we are hearing is genuine, and not just the product of an overactive imagination or wishful thinking?

Hello Kaz,
One thing I notice is that our inner wisdom doesn't always tell us what we want to hear. When that happens you can pretty much discount "wishful thinking". God can speak to a person in many different ways, but I believe that most often it happens during moments of stillness. Things are most clear when you've quieted the external noise and the business of your own mind. There may have been something that you have been ignoring, that God may be giving you signs that you need to pay attention to it. How do I know it's God and not my own worries? Many times my worries are irrational or they ponder on the "what-ifs" and serve no real purpose. But when I'm shown something that I need to change repeatedly (key word being repeatedly), then I know I need to take notice. I think our inner wisdom will always show us what's best for our well-being, spiritually.

Hello Kaz,
To me that is one of the tests of the Path… To ask, to listen and make spiritual choices of what our inner voice or guidance may or may not be telling us. Obtaining, having and honing of a “Spiritual discrimination” of our inner listening and hearing . Sometimes we are getting correct intuitions BUT sometimes we do hear falsely or is can just be our imagination or ego. But learning to accept our failures on the inner and outer path can be very rewarding and valuable lessons also. Sometimes the message after asking is received in a number of ways. Through synchronicities in our waking life, in dreams and an inner correctness which play out over time. Don't believe blindly, but don’t stop asking is how I see it.
