I would like to ask this question. Sometimes when I pray, I think I hear God speak to me. How do I know this is really God speaking and not my imagination?

Hi Ruby, This is a good question. It's one that many people ask themselves. As children most of us are taught to disregard our imagination... it's only for artists, poets, writers and the like... but somehow for the rest of us it just doesn't count somehow. I ask... why would God give ALL of us an imagination if it was only for those destined to be artists... surely God knows who they are... yes? no? Something to think about there... Now I also put this thought to you... imagination according to the dictionary... is the act of making images... so that sounds about right... we do see images and sometimes moving images... through our imagination...I also put to you... that before we had language as we know it now... we used pictures (images) to express ourselves... there are caves painting all over the world to confirm that... so it makes perfect sense (to me anyway) that God speaks to us through images... Now the question is... how do we know if these images are from God or from our own ego... usually they are too far fetched for our ego to think of ... so if the image makes you stop and question it... I'd say it's from God... as our ego wouldn't give us an image that it would question...remember our ego thinks it's in control... so when something shows up out of the blue... the ego stops and questions... then tries to dismiss that which doesn't make sense... so in essence we talk ourselves out of it... as the adults in our lives talked us out of our imaginings when we were younger. Hope that makes sense to you... God bless, Silvia

Perhaps it's a lot like love. You know deeply and intimately within you that what you are feeling is what you are feeling. Words and images cannot always explain the feeling, but the feeling is unmistakable.
Perhaps also, we should remove our preconceived notion of how that conversation should take place. Maybe that conversation is taking place all the time, through the people you interact with, and through the very world and existence around you, for we are all part of God?
