I suddenly felt that this dream is very personal, and I suddenly felt that I wanted this to stay private. I was helped with understanding the dream by sparklekaz, it was a 'wonderful' reply that fits very much with the dream, and I learned a lot.

Hello Bumble,

This dream is very detailed and has a lot of symbolism within it. I will take an overview of it and not linger too much on things that I don't feel make a difference to the overall interpretation of the dream.

In your dream you are in your old house. Houses in dream symbology represent you, all aspects of you. As it is a house from your past, this dream has links to the past. This would indicate to me, that circumstances and its affect upon, you are still influencing you, your behaviour, decisions, in the present.

To see your father in your dream, is connected to a desire for a sense of security, to re connect with family roots. A father figure is also symbolic of the wise, more mature masculine aspect of the self. We all have female and male characteristics and traits within our psyche. The father figure is also connected to God the Protector and provider. On another level, it may also simply mean you need your father, or a father figure in your life. Someone to give you support and to lean on in times of trouble.

You are both in the Attic. The attic is connected to Spiritual awareness, because it is in the top of the house, and associated within the body by the crown area. So this dream is being worked through in your unconscious mind by your higher/spiritual self.

In the dream you are trying to make a flute. Flutes in dreams represent Spiritual elation, Joy and harmony and melodious feelings and thoughts. This makes a lot of sense in terms of what we have shared with each other about your love of music. It lifts you up, it connects you with your intuitive spiritual side, this is how you express yourself.

By disconnecting yourself from this aspect of yourself, you are shutting out a very important part of you. Music connects you to your higher self and I feel the spiritual realms. Your music affects your own vibration as well as those of others. Music is healing, allow it back into your life, it will help restore you back to health and wholeness.

Windows in dreams are about having the ability to see beyond a given situation, expanded vision, perception. Windows can also be a view to the other side, inter dimensional awareness. This would indicate to me, that you have it within yourself, to be able to rise up above your situation and see things clearly. Meditation, is an excellent way of doing this. If meditation, is not something you do, it might be a great time to start.. Keep it simple to begin with, incorporate it into your daily life, even if it is only for five mins here and there. I promise you, you wont regret it.

The house, is cluttered and needs redecorating. This may be symbolic of what is going on in your life at the moment. The clutter symbolising, old ideas and habits that you have outgrown or need to get rid of. By clearing out the house and re painting it, you are saying it is time for change, for a fresh start. You ask your father figure for help. Again, this may be you are realising, to help you step forward in life, you may need to seek the help or advice of an older or wise mentor, counselor or guide. Seek outside help, if you feel that it is needed. On another level, all these things you have within yourself. by going quietly within as with meditation, you can access and connect, with these aspects of the self.

In the dream, your mother's presence is very much felt, even when you don't see her. This would indicate that in real life, she has a very strong influence on you. Though as the dream is your dream, you also identify yourself very much with your mother. On another level, within you, you have the mothering, nurturing side to your nature. So the love of books is also yours as well as your mothers. Books represent knowledge. Knowledge and wisdom acquired within this lifetime and previous lifetimes.

This caring aspect for your mother may also have its echo's in past life, where your roles may have been reversed. You the mother, she the child. This is something you may want to meditate upon. I do feel though, that to move forward with your life, you need to cut these past life ties. This is the lifetime you are in, this is the life you need to focus on. You have many abilities and gifts within you, your focus should be on drawing them out, to make your life happier, richer and fulfilled.

The picture of the lake, seems to be a reminder of happier times. The lake symbolises the emotions. If the waters are calm, then you are in control of your emotions, if they are choppy or murky. You need to centre yourself, to calm your emotional life. The lake offers emotional resources and sensitivity. These are all part of you, your psyche. You have more control over your life then you think you have, you are also much stronger then you think you are. Being happy and finding stability is a vital part of being a whole and healthy person. Focus on this, rather then worrying that you need to sacrifice your happiness, to keep someone else happy. Those who truly love us, only want us to be happy. Yet, we often project our own thoughts and fears onto others, thinking it is what they want, when it is what we 'think' they want and it is not true at all.

The rest of the dream, is taken up with conflict and stepping over boundaries of behaviour. Policemen in dreams are symbolic of help being available to you. If in your life, things spin out of control and are frightening to you. There is help and support available to you. Look around and see what is there. Contact organizations who can help. If those around you will not take the help that is available, you can!! Having support from outside will also take you out of the stressful environment. Outside support can also help you to see things clearly and get some perspective on what you see and what happens to you.

A dream, with a lot going on in it Bumble, that seems to be a reflection of your own inner turmoil and fears. Focus on the beginning of the dream, this I feel is where the answers lie, they give you a clue to what you need to do to live a happier and more fulfilled life.

I think you are very right about a lot of things, about how the past influenses me, about how I feel a need for a father figure (which is not possible of course) about how music lifts me up and so on. A lot of it really fits.
I also like what you wrote about the other level of the father dream symbol: "A father figure is also symbolic of the wise, more mature masculine aspect of the self."
Maybe I should grow into that part of myself more, if you understand what I mean. I am not sure how to explain.
Maybe if I do that, I will have less need of having a father figure around? I do not know. But its worth to try. I also see masculine as 'stronger', someone that is with both feet in the earth..

You also write about meditation, to be able to see situations more clearly etc. I still do not meditate, I used to do it for some time but I stopped. I actually did that on a day in which something really bad happened with my mother. I was meditating in that moment, I woke from it with a huge shock and bumped my head so hard that it made me dizzy. From that moment on things went bad again with my mother.
This is a long time ago though.. so it has nothing to do with this moment, and so there is no reason not to meditate. I just stopped in that time, and did not start again. It was too.. open or something, I felt a need to close more. Meditation seems scary then.
I know it is not Just need to work on it.

You write about past lives and the possibility that our roles might have been the other way around. I have thought about that a lot before, I even thought that maybe as a mother.. in my past life.. I was not good, so maybe that is why this life is so difficult. People say that bad things come from bad karma, I know I have tried my best in this life.. so that is why I thought about past lives in such a way.
I do not know if its right.. but who knows..


This dream happened, I think, because for a couple of days I was very.. open.. so it seems for memories and such. It was very hard and made me very very sad. I hope going through those days, and such dreams, has helped. I think it did.. I believe it happened because things became 'unstuck' a bit. As if wheels started turning after a long time of standing still. Its a bit rusty.. and not effortless. But there is some movement. Your comment about the wheels yesterday made me think about that.

Thank you for very much for your feedback, I really appreciate it.

I have thought long and hard upon the subject of mother's and our relationships with them. For my relationship with my Mum was also very intense and could be volatile. My whole life my mother and I danced between being at loggerheads or very close. She was a very difficult person to be with at times and she had issues, but she was also incredibly loving and protective. I thought as you, maybe my relationship with my mother and the problems we had stemed from a past life. Was I being paid back in some way for behaving badly myself in the past, or making mistakes? But after thinking about it really hard, I have come to this conclusion. It makes sense for me, might not be right for you, but it may give you something to think about.

At first, like you, I felt my mother and I had been put together again on this earth to resolve past issues. Maybe a second chance to get our relationship right, having failed before, no matter what role we played. Its still about personal relationships. Or I had been in a similar situation before in past life and failed miserably, so again, this time round was put into a similar one. One day, I was meditating and thinking about the dynamics of relationships, how I often find myself in difficult situations, in which I played no small part in bringing about. I do feel that life is pre destined up to a point, so how much influence do we really have, about ,what happens to us in the sense of whether it happens or not, rather then how or when. I was given the words, it is for your soul growth.

Dealing with difficult situations stretches us in ways nothing else can. It forces us to examine our motives, and be totally honest with ourselves, it forces us to look at how we use relationships to fulfill needs in us. People, do actually feel that their lives have no meaning unless they are needed. We like to think others could not manage without our help but the reality is, for some, it is us that cannot cope with life, unless 'we' are needed. We put ourselves in positios of being indispensable, we allow others to become reliant on us and in doing so we are actually interfering with their soul growth.

Think of difficult life situations as a master course, the hard school, where it batters us emotionally yes, but if faced honestly it also brings on great strength of character, insight and yes eventually hard earned wisdom. Sometimes, situations cannot be changed, because this is how they are meant to be. It is not just our life we are dealing with, other people's lives intertwine with ours. All we can do, is learn to cope with life in the best way we can, behave honourably ourselves, that is all anyone can ask of themselves. It is also not wrong to retreat and put distance between ourselves and situations that distress us. We are only human and nothing is gained by sacrificing our own mental health. There is much wisdom to be found in knowing when to let go and when to move forward.

It is not unusual for people to stop doing something because they have had a bad experience that they connect to it. Your banging your head after meditating on the day something bad happened. Is a good example of that. I really think going back to meditating will help you, Bumble. It will help calm your emotions, clear your mind and give your clarity.

Having healing, often brings issues that have been buried, to the surface. Like a wound, that wont heal until the root of the infection is removed, healing cannot take place until all the badness has come out. The wheels in healing were definitely moving for you, I was worried they might be overactive, and indeed for a while if they have suddenly come alive again for you as you've described they might be. But with regular healing and meditation, all will fall into balance.
