Guys i am going to share story of a Marathi saint or yogi .
There was a vedic scholar name Vitthal Kulkarni and his his wife Rukmini who lived in Alandi, Maharashtra. The couple was respected very much. But in heart of Vitthal ,he was longing for spiritual learning. So by permission of his wife he went to Kashi (Varanasi) to get initiated into a monk or sannyasi . He was initiated into a monk but later his master came to know he left his family life aside and came here. He instructed straightway to him to go to him wife and continue his marital life.
After that they had four children , three sons named Nivrutti, Dnyandev, Sopaan, and a daughter named Mukta. In that period of time if a sannyasi or monk procreates then he is considered as impure. He was kicked out from Brahmin caste and his family was labelled as impure.
For atonement of their sin (procreation after becoming a monk) the brahmin group commanded them vitthal and Rukmini to do 'Dehaanth Praishchita' literally meaning atonement from suicide. So they did commit suicide. The four children were all alone now and they were just kid.
The elder one Nivrutti was initiated into nath sampradaya (a monastic order) by a profound yogi Gahininath and he was renamed as Nivruttinath. Little Nivrutti (yet older one) was given holy knowledge of yoga (not only about exercise!) and got various "Siddhis" or spiritual powers.
The main goal of Nivrutti was to teach his younger brother Dnyandev. Dnyandev (our hero of this story!) was very mature and caring for his age . The four little children were not even allowed to enter the local temple because of their impurity. The Nivrutti and Dnyandev were only support to sopaan and mukta.
The Dnyandev was initiated into monk by Nivruttinath . Even though they were spiritual and smart innocent children , locals were used to treat them like animals or dirt. Even though their parents did atonement , the children were still considered impure.( which is really sad)
These little kids were asked to get a "purity letter" from a profound Brahmin living in paithan(which was way to far from alandi) .
The children accepted the offer and started their journey to paithan . Imagine how those children without any elderly support gone to paithan on their own. Their little feets touched the land of paithan and they asked the brahmin for purity letter.
The brahmin was arrogant(most of the brahmin were!) .Dnyandev explained him that the the soul within everyone is the same consciousness . The brahmin baffled and was triggered by that sentence . "How can every soul can be one? Dnyana if you think a soul within this bull and you is also same then PROVE IT! you think you have knowledge of vedas THEN MAKE THE BULL SPEAK VEDAS!" .Without hesitation he asked permission of his teacher Nivruttinath and placed hand onto the bull's head. The bull in its low animal voice started speaking something. Bull was speaking first verse of vedas! Everyone around them baffled and started praising Dnyandev. The brahmin lost . He felled on dnyanadev's feet and started saying "Dnyanadev you are yogiraaj , you are god , you are Dnyaneshwar! (meaning god of knowledge)". Dnyanadev said " i am no god and i didn't do anything . It was him . Only by his grace all this was possible. Rama Krushna Hari!.
After getting letter they became immensely popular by that act.
One day one lady came to dnaynadev , "Dnyana (nickname) my husband is dying please do something". Dnyanadev came to body of he husband. It was too late . He left this world. Dnyanadev asked his name . His name was Sachchidananda( satchitananda sanskrit word and pure name of god). Dnayanadeva said " his name is so pure he shouldn't be dying like this . wake up Sachchidananda!". Sachchinanda woke up !. Sachchidananda became a disciple and wrote every teaching of dnaynadev.
The was another yogi who meditated for 1400 years! and got immense siddhis and powers. Yogi was named Changdev. Changdev was very proud of his power and he started thinking of himself as god . The disciples of him used to speak of Dnayanadeva's miracles to him. One day changdev decided to write a letter to him . He was confused what to write in that letter . Finally his 1400 years of experience came to conclusion to send a blank letter. The Dnaynadev and his brothers and sister read that letter(nothing to read in that). Mukta said "1400 varsha zale tari changa kora re kora!" (translation:even after 1400 years , changa or changdev is empty!). Dnyandev write a letter to him wishing a meeting between two of them. Changdev to show his powers came riding on a lion, with a snake in his hand . To dissolve this ego of changdev , Dnayandev decided to do something extraordinary. Dnayandev and his brothers and sister sat on a wall of bricks and the brick wall started flying! Changdev was only able to animate living being but Dnayadev was able to animate even non-living things too!. Changdev , after seeing dnyandev coming towards him on a flying brick wall ,realized his mistake. Dnayanadev explained siddhis or powers should only be used for betterment of people not for publicity.
And no dnyanadev was not only popular for his miracles!. Dnyanadev wanted everyone even backward people to understand spirituality.
He was the one who dared to write a commentary on Bhagwad Gita in local marathi language ! He said language is not important for spirituality , it is the language of heart. The ancient language of India, Sanskrit was not understood by people other than brahmins! So he preached the meaning of Bhagwad Gita in people's own language!.
He started Vaarkari Bhakti sampradaya which only focusses on knowledge and reciting name of God . It was easy and can be followed by people of any caste because of its simplicity.
"Devaachiye dvaari , ubhaa kshanaBhari, if you stand at God's doorstep even for a moment,
Tene muktichaari saadhiyelyaa. you will achieve liberation.
Hari mukhe mhanaa!, Hari mukhe mhanaa!, Chant "Hari" "Hari" constantly!
Punyaachi gananaa kona kari!." Who can measure progress on this path!
He wrote Amrutaanubhava(experience of immortal) .
He took sanjeevan samaadhi (which means stepping into grave while being alive) at age of 21.
And he left his body to meet the nirguna (formless) form of god .
Some say he is still meditating in that grave room .
He was just an ordinary boy of my age (17-18) and he preached about spirituality.
For me he was not a prophet but a initiator or a spark who fueled flame of spirituality in me.
